Mission accomplished! The results are in for the UK’s biggest clean-up event ever to date. A huge thank you to every single local hero who took part and helped out in our third annual Mindful Chef Coast Clean this September.
HERE’S THE WEEKEND IN NUMBERS
- 600+ beaches, parks, woodland areas and beauty spots cleared
- 4,397 people took part across the UK
- Over 157,690 liters of rubbish was cleared
→ which is the equivalent of a whopping 315,720 plastic bottles!
Alice is one of our team members who helped coordinate the Coast Clean from start to finish and made it all happen – we definitely couldn’t have done it all without you!
OUR INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY
This year the Mindful Chef Coast Clean took place over three days from September 17th to 19th. 4,397 local heroes cleaned up their local beaches, parks, woodland areas, and favorite places and managed to clear a total of 157,690L of rubbish. As more than 4,000 volunteers took part, this officially made it the biggest clean-up in the UK ever recorded! We litter-ally (‘scuse the pun) couldn’t have done it without all of you so thank you to everyone who took part.
We were thrilled to partner with the Marine Conservation Society for the second year running, as they are the leading conservation charity in the UK and have been protecting our oceans for the last 30 years. The MCS aspire for a healthier ocean, one we can all enjoy. So we thought what better way than to combine forces, spread awareness and help keep our oceans cleaner and better protected.
WHAT WAS FOUND BY OUR LOCAL HEROES?
The most common items found were, unsurprisingly, plastic bottles, PPE, and lots of sweet wrappers!
It’s fair to say our local heroes found some very interesting items on their Coast Cleans. Ranging from a WW1 marmite jar to a couple of car exhausts and a lost iPhone 10 (which was returned safely and working to its owner) – pretty impressive if you ask us! Not forgetting, enough golf items for someone to pursue a career – including golf balls, golf clubs, and a golf ball cleaner.
AROUND THE COUNTRY
As you know, our local heroes were dotted all around the UK and sent us lots of amazing pictures of them in action. Below are some of our favorites from the weekend.
Duck the border terrier helping to keep our riversides clean.
River Taff, Grangetown, Cardiff
Fiona Mcallister rounded up a squad of 11, including her three dog helpers and cleared up in Cardiff.
Edward and Henry worked as a great team and cleared up lots of litter along a beach in Dorset.
Amelie clearing up lots of litter along the beautiful landscape in Scotland.
Olivia, one of our incredible employees. cleaned up all the way in Greece on a family holiday – proving to us all that you can be anywhere in the world to take part in our Coast Clean!
Jump gathered a team of 9 to clear along Whistable beach.
Hannah and her friends cleared up one of Surrey’s beautiful beaches.
Thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s Coast Clean, its because of you that we can help make our environment a safer place. Together, we have made a difference.
OUR GOODIE BAG PARTNERS
We would like to say a massive thank you to all the businesses who provided our local heroes with a goodie for the day and supported our Coast Clean. And to all of those companies who helped spread the word.
Our amazing partners this year were Tenzing, The Cheeky Panda, Delphis Eco, Tick Tock Tea, Wikaniko Ltd and Safety Gloves.
Don’t worry if you weren’t able to join us for the #MCCoastClean as our next community event – our annual Reverse Advent Calendar – is kicking off soon! The idea’s simple – every day throughout December you place one food item into an empty recipe box, then just before Christmas you send it back to us for free. We work with local charities to distribute the food to those in need. Keep your eyes peeled for more information coming soon.
